Who We Are

Goodwill Mozambique is a children's home and community project based in Vilankulo, created to provide vulnerable children with a safe, caring and structured environment.

At Goodwill, children receive daily care, education, emotional support, meals, guidance and the opportunity to grow with dignity, confidence and hope.

Every child deserves safety, love, education and the chance to dream of a brighter future.

A Home Filled with Care

Goodwill is more than a place where children stay. It is their home.

Our team supports the children through daily routines, school preparation, meals, homework, emotional guidance, activities and moments of joy. We work hard to create an environment where each child feels protected, listened to and part of a family.

The children attend school every day, and after school they receive extra support through tutoring, English lessons and homework assistance with our dedicated teacher, Mr Nhammire.

Our social worker, Avelino, also works closely with the children through wellbeing sessions, group discussions and activities that help them understand their emotions, build trust with one another and develop a strong family bond.

At Goodwill, care is not only about meeting basic needs. It is about helping each child grow with dignity, confidence and hope.

What we provide

Every contribution covers all aspects of a child's needs — food, education, healthcare, shelter, emotional support and the freedom to play.

Full school fees and materials covered. Daily homework support, English classes, tutoring with our resident teacher.

Daily nutrition

Three nutritious meals every single day, prepared in our kitchen and shared at the communal table.

Healthcare & wellbeing

Medical care, transport when needed, and emotional wellbeing sessions led by our social worker Avelino.

Hygiene & clothing

Soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste and clothes — the everyday essentials that protect dignity and health.

Recreation & play

Soccer, baseball, chess, sewing, Uno club and creative sessions — for confidence, teamwork and joy.

A real family bond

24/7 care from a dedicated team of 16, including a private tutor and a social worker who knows every child by name.

Beyond the home

Reaching the wider community.

Goodwill's care doesn't stop at the gates of the children's home. We support families across Vilankulo, building homes, sharing food, and growing gardens.

We build homes for the families of children in our care, so they can stay close to loved ones in safe, stable surroundings.

Food parcels

Regular food parcels reach families in need across the village, especially in lean months when work is scarce.

Machambas (gardens)

We work the machambas alongside families, cultivating gardens that provide fresh, sustainable food year-round.

Our story

It started with a simple dream.

"It was always my dream to be able to contribute to social work. When I was 19, I had the privilege to be involved in a project in South Africa where we were building a kindergarten. I really loved that experience and wanted to do something similar long term — so when Gina went to Mozambique, we saw it as a great opportunity and decided to do it together with Pedro."

Founder & CEO of Passport Legacy, Jeffrey championed Goodwill from its first day. Passport Legacy contributed 70% of the home's $108,000 founding fund.

2019

Gina visits Mozambique. The seed of an idea is planted.

2020

Goodwill Mozambique is founded by Gina, Pedro and Jeffrey.

2022

The Vulnerable Children's Home opens its doors with 40 children.

Today

50 children, 16 staff, three meals a day, and growing community programs.
