Our Journey

In 2021, Jeffrey Henseler, in collaboration with Passport Legacy, established GoodWill Vulnerable Children's Home — the first of its kind in the Vilankulo, Inhambane district.

This sanctuary is dedicated to offering vulnerable children a secure and nurturing environment where their fundamental rights are upheld, their emotional well-being is fostered, and their education is prioritized.

Supported by the committed GoodWill team, the children are given a home where they can thrive and grow into strong, independent adults.

Our Mission

GoodWill is more than a place where children stay. It is their home.

Our home houses up to 50 children between the ages of 7 and 18, lovingly looked after 24/7 by the GoodWill team. Together we provide the daily routines, school support, meals, emotional guidance and moments of joy that make a real childhood possible.

The running costs of the children's home are covered by Passport Legacy, whose focus was to create the first vulnerable children's home of its kind in the Vilankulo, Inhambane district.

We also recognise that mental health is essential to every child's well-being. Through wellbeing sessions, group discussions and our Mental Health Matters initiative, we help children understand their emotions, build trust, and develop a strong family bond.

At GoodWill, care is not only about meeting basic needs. It is about helping each child grow with dignity, confidence and hope.

A virtual tour

Inside our home.

A welcome centre, kitchen, four dormitories, caretaker accommodation, a volunteer dormitory, bathrooms, and an open-air seating area that doubles as dining and study space — every corner thoughtfully built for the children.

🎨

Play, learn, grow

Our playroom is filled with energy and creativity. It holds the TV for educational programs, the children's school supplies and books — everything they need to thrive academically and creatively.

🍽️

Meals made with love

The dining area is the central space where the children come together to eat, study and play games — fostering shared meals, learning, fun, and a sense of belonging.

🌱

Planting hope, growing futures

Our garden is a shared responsibility. Children plant, water and care for lettuce, tomatoes, onions and mangoes — nourishment and a lesson in sustainability all at once.

🧺

Fresh and folded

The laundry area is where children and team work together to keep clothes and linens clean — teaching responsibility, essential life skills, and making sure everyone has clean bedding.

👩‍🍳

Heart of the home

A weekly menu of balanced, nutritious meals — accommodating different dietary needs. Fresh fruits and home-baked goods make the kitchen the warm centre of the home.

🛏️

Safe nights, sound sleep

Four dormitories, each with fans, mosquito nets, custom wardrobe cupboards and three bunk beds — designed so every child has a comfortable, safe place to rest.

With gratitude

A home built by a community.

None of this would be possible without the partners who stand alongside us — from the local government that gave us the land, to the clinic that gives our children medical care, to the people championing their emotional wellbeing.

🏛️

Vilankulo local government

The Vilankulo local government gifted us the land on which the home now stands — making the welcome centre, kitchen, dormitories and study spaces possible.

🏥

Consultório Médico Esperança

CME, a local private clinic expanding to a hospital, provides free outpatient medical treatment for the children — part of their corporate social responsibility programme.

🧠

Mental Health Matters

Mental health is essential to every child's well-being. Through our Mental Health Matters initiative, we work to build a more compassionate and emotionally aware future — one child at a time.
